The winter Olympics 2022 are ongoing in Beijing, China and the USA female ice hockey team is looking to defend their title this season. However, earlier in their game against Finland the veteran player Brianna Decker was the victim of a leg injury as she tangled with the Finland’s defender defender Ronja Savolainen.
The 30-year-old came crashing down on the ice and later had to be stretched off the ice by the staff. Her agony was not hidden from anyone as her screams were heard by everyone on the field and the viewers.
The latest word out now is that Decker will miss the remaining matches of the Beijing Olympics. This is a potential huge blow for the USA team as they haven’t bought a bus full of backup players to Beijing.
Americans responded soon after the incident and Amanda Kessel scored only 21 seconds in. The team continued to play well and eventually beat Finland 5-2. Decker’s teammates were not in a pleasant mood upon their veteran player’s injury.
After the game, Amanda Kessel gave the following statement:
“I think it was a pretty sickening moment,”
She called Decker “a key player to the team”.
